What Changes When We Listen? Improving Primary Care Access for Latino/a/x Communities

Too often, the communities that face the greatest barriers to primary care are the least likely to use it, yet healthcare organizations struggle to understand what gets in the way. This challenge can be even more complex for Latino/a/x communities navigating barriers of access, cost, coverage, and trust.

A pioneering initiative in Los Angeles brought HealthBegins together with a managed care plan, a community health site, and Latina community members to better understand these challenges through Human-Centered Design and direct community engagement. What we heard revealed barriers to care that traditional data alone could not explain. Those insights catalyzed organizational change, shaping new approaches to transportation, Medi-Cal coverage communication, and appointment access, with the goal of improving primary care access for Latino/a/x communities.

Join us to discover how lasting improvements in primary care access can begin with listening to the community, and how Human-Centered Design can turn those insights into scalable, adaptable approaches for many organizations and communities.
